What is the statewide Semesterticket and when can I start using it?
The statewide Semesterticket is your access to public transportation in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg (HVV A+B).
You don’t need any addtitional tickets, because you paid the Semesterticket with your semester fee for the whole 6 months.
The ticket will be available for ca. 50.000 students in Schleswig-Holstein at the beginning of the winter semester 2019/20, starting for CAU students on October 1st 2019.
The ticket comes as a mobile ticket for you smartphone (in the NAH.SH App) and as alternative as a paper ticket. You will get the code to unlock the ticket or order the paper ticket to be send to you here starting August 26th.
What can I do with the ticket?
… ride all trains and busses in all of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg (normal 2nd class).
You can ride from Flensburg to Lübeck, Kiel, Fehmarn or Westland, to Husum, Eckernförde, Pinneberg, Büchen or Neumünster, or visit Hamburg (Zones A+B) or any place inbetween.
Part of the ticket are also the publix transit ferries in the HVV. You can use the F1 ferry in Kiel as usual (in the winter timetable also on weekends) and the Schwentinen ferry F2 (bikes incl.). See also the Area of Validitiy.
… ride 24/7 and all days of the 6 months of the semester.
… take 3 kids under 6 years with you. Additional kids need an own ticket. Addtional adults, dogs and bikes are not (yet) included in the Semesterticket and need extra tickets, too.
The exact tariff rules can be found here:
Tarifbestimmungen Semesterticket Schleswig-Holstein
What can’t I do?
… can’t use long-distance trains and long-distance busses (ICE/IC/EC, Flixbus and Co.). Long-distance trains can be opened to Semesterticket users due to delays of other trains, but this has to be expressed explicitly at the train station.
Als not included are the Sylt bus and bus services on the North Frisian islands.
