The semester ticket

On this page you will find the most important information about the Area of validity, about ordering and reimbursement of the semester ticket, as well as the relevant forms. Frequently asked questions can be found in the FAQ.

What is the semester ticket?

The state-wide semester ticket is your access to public transport in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg (HVV A+B). It includes all buses and trains in the NAH.SH tariff area, except for DB long-distance services (ICE/IC/EC...), long-distance buses, bus services on the North Frisian islands (you can get to Westerland by train, for example, but the Syltbus is not part of the semester ticket locally), as well as ferry services, except for the Kiel SFK.

You do not need to buy any additional tickets to use it, as you have already paid for the semester ticket with your semester fee for the entire semester.

The ticket comes as a mobile phone ticket (in the NAH.SH app) and alternatively as a paper ticket and must be activated for each semester.

With the state-wide semester ticket you can travel everywhere, including within Kiel and on the ferries. The CAU-Card is no longer valid as a ticket.

What can I do with it?

... travel by train and busthroughout Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, in 2nd class.
It extends, for example, to Flensburg, Lübeck, Kiel, Fehmarn or Westerland, to Husum, Eckernförde, Pinneberg, Büchen or Neumünster and in Hamburg city center (rings A + B). The HVV ferries are also included. In Kiel you can use the SFK ferry lines F1 (in the winter timetable also at weekends) and the Schwentinen ferry F2 (incl. bicycle transport) as usual. (see also: Area of validity)

… take a ride at any time. The ticket is valid all day, every day, there is no time limit.

... take up to three children under the age of 6 with you. Additional children need their own discounted ticket. An additional ticket is required for other passengers, dogs and bicycles.

What can I not do with it?

... use long-distance transportation and long-distance buses. The semester ticket is not valid on long-distance trains and long-distance buses in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. In the event of delays in local transport, long-distance trains can be released for students with a semester ticket.

The Sylt bus, bus services on the North Frisian islands and some passenger ferries (e.g. Priwall ferry in Lübeck) are also excluded.
