Job and income tax consulting
Working while studying is a reality for most students today. A part-time job can help to finance your studies or secure your livelihood. For all those who work alongside their studies, there are a few things to bear in mind, such as when and how much social security contributions have to be paid, what is involved with pension insurance in particular, what effects income has on family insurance, for example, and what happens with income tax.
All students must be covered by statutory or private health insurance, regardless of their job. The health insurance company must be informed before taking up employment.
If you work alongside your studies, you should always observe the income limits so that other benefits are not reduced or cancelled.
In general, jobs alongside your studies are characterised by the fact that your main activity is still your studies and the job is a secondary activity. To ensure that this is the case, you may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during regular study periods.
The 20-hour limit may only be exceeded during the lecture-free period and for no more than 26 weeks within a given year. The employment must either be contractually limited in advance or limited according to the type of employment relationship. In addition to a semester break job, low-paid employment (also known as a mini-job or 538-euro job) is also possible. Both jobs are not counted together.
The statutory minimum wage must also be paid for employment during the semester break.
However, you can also work to a much lesser extent alongside your studies
