Studying can be challenging not only academically, but also in terms of organization, finances, and mental health. If you have questions about BAföG, financing your studies, housing, social difficulties, or challenges due to physical or mental impairments, the General Social Counseling Service of the AStA at CAU at HAW Kiel (formerly FH) is there to support you.

Our services are free of charge, confidential, and independent. Together, we will look for solutions to help you organize your studies and your life in the best possible way.

How we work

Our counseling is designed to help you help yourself. We offer guidance, provide information, and support you with your problems. We take a solution-oriented, appreciative approach and treat everyone as equals. It goes without saying that we treat all matters confidentially and are sensitive to diversity issues.

Who is the counseling for?

For all students at HAW Kiel (and CAU Kiel next year) – regardless of origin, degree program, or semester.

Even if you don't know exactly what kind of support you need, you've come to the right place.

How we can support you

We can advise you on many issues, for example:

• Questions about BAföG and other financing options
• Living and studying with a child or disability
• Personal or family stressors that affect everyday student life

If your concern goes beyond our scope, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist services or authorities. We also work closely with the psychosocial counseling service of the CAU's AStA.
